Significance of Havan

-Cleanliness of water and air is essential for a human being to remain healthy and happy. In the world of today, the impurity of water and air has become a huge problem. In Vedic culture, Havan is the best solution to this problem.

According to the Vedaas and other religious scriptures relating to our culture, like Manu Smriti, Ramayana, Mahabharata et cetra, the worship of gods is to be done by only one method and that method is Agnihotra or havan. Havan cures diseases by purifying water and air. Therefore, havan is the best action to be performed for the good of others. By not performing Havan, a person incurs sin. Equivalent to foul odor, that is emitted in air and water by a man during performing his daily activities, which in turn bring pain to living beings by becoming a reason of spread of many diseases, he is held guilty in the court of God. In order to get rid of this sin, at least that much fragrance should be spread in water and air by the man.

-Why are all the good things put in fire, in Havan? Just like all the good things for the body are put in the mouth without injecting them to a particular part, from mouth, they reach our stomach and are received by different organs through the process of digestion. In the same way, good substances are not put in water, air, et cetra, but are put into fire. Fire has the power to break down the substances, into their subtle elements. These lightened micro-elements purify air and rain water. Due to this, we get pure air to breath and pure food. It is because of the penetrating power of fire that the air in our homes, which becomes polluted by our breathing et cetra, can be replaced by clean air.
