SAGUN STUTI AND NIRGUN STUTI OF GOD

There are two ways of doing stuti or praise of God-Sagun Stuti and Nirgun Stuti. It is very essential to understand this concept. It is because of wrong understanding of this concept that today by the word ‘Sagun’, a body with dimensions is taken and by the word ‘Nirgun’, a body without a form is taken. In other words, when God is said to have taken a form, He is called ‘Sagun’ and it is totally wrong. Such an understanding has been developed by the ignorant people. Talks of the unintelligent people should never be followed by the masses and should be ignored. Even the literal meanings of the words-Sagun  and Nirgun do not refer to ‘form’ or ‘formlessness’ rather these words refer to ‘attributefulness’ and ‘attributelessness’. Everything is both ‘sagun’ and ‘nirgun’ as everything possesses certain attributes and at the same time does not possess certain other attributes. Accordingly, ‘Sagun’ Stuti refers to worship of God as possesser of the attributes, He possesses like omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience et cetra and ‘Nirgun’ Stuti refers to worship of God with the attributes, He does not possess, for example, to worship God as formless, not doing injustice et cetra.
