WHEN GOOD DEEDS SHOULD NOT BE DONE

Generally, it is felt that punyas or good deeds should be accumulated in order to earn God’s grace. It may look strange to know that sometimes punyas or good deeds, too, like sins should be abandoned in achieving purpose of our life. Punyas or good deeds, which act as hurdles in the journey of soul towards God should be abandoned out-rightly. Now, the question arises as to when does punyas or good deeds act as hurdles in the journey of soul towards God? Let’s understand this point through an example. Suppose, a person is getting drowned. Now to save such a person from drowning is certainly a good deed. But a person, who himself does not know how to swim should not try to save the drowning man. Here, we do not mean to say that one should value his own life before helping others. One should be ready to sacrifice his own life in helping others but it is not appreciable to give own life, when there is no chance to save the life of the other.
