NATIONALISM -WHAT AND WHY?

A nation is nothing but a group of the persons living in that nation. As such, only that country can be said to be developed whose people are developed. First of all, we must know as to what is the importance of a ‘nation’. Identity of everything is very important. Man is known by his work. An individual has only 90-100 years of his life to prove or establish his identity but a country is identified by thousands or lakhs of years of its existence. This means cumulative contribution of its members reflect identity of a nation. Now, a question arises as to why should one have a feeling of nationalism? Identity of his nation moves with a person irrespective of his intention. To this extent, he always remain indebted to his nation. Although, this debt can never be paid off but towards paying off a small portion of this debt, one must have a feeling of nationalism. One must understand that he is a representative of his nation and accordingly, he must ensure before executing an act as to whether the same will add up to the reputation of his country or not. In no circumstance, whatsoever, an activity, which can blot the country’s identity should be undertaken. To undertake only such activities, which go for enhancement of the country’s reputation, one must first of all feel the debt of his country and should find pride in its past glory. Without having pride in his country’s past, one cannot have the feeling of nationalism. A feeling of nationalism is said to have developed, when one accepts the responsibility for good future of the nation. One, having the thoughts like ‘how could anything endanger pride of my nation in my presence?’ is the true child (successor or heir) of the nation. Such a feeling generates only out of respect for the nation.
