MAN AND MACHINE

The reason of our miseries is our inability to control our desires. A machine is in the control of some other thing whereas human beings can control their actions. If a man is unable to control his actions, then he is not better than a machine, which is programmed to adopt a specific course of action. In this respect, animals, too, are like machines. On seeing green grass, a cow is inclined to eat the same and kill her hunger without thinking of any morals in this regard. She can be said to be better than machine as she can think of physical dangers present on her way to grass. Accordingly, it can be said that man, who is unable to reign his mind is in no way better than animals. Certain psychologists are of the view that one should not try to control his instincts or desires as it (controlling) is harmful for one’s health. Accepting this view of the psychologists, by non-control of one’s desires one can get the benefit of avoidance of harmful effect on one’s health but it may lead to some other mental problems like fear, insecurity, guilt et cetra. Also, when controlling of desires is talked of, then only inappropriate desires are meant. The desires, which are appropriate should never be controlled. For example, lust for good company need not be avoided. Generally, man controls his desires out of fear. Such instances can very well be seen in our day to day lives. Instance-we control our anger, if the other party is physically or financially strong. One should control his desires not out of fear of any kind but out of self-discipline. This is the only way to avoid uncalled for miseries.
