DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONALITY

We are judged by others-firstly, by our clothes, secondly, by our body, thirdly, by our speech and fourthly and lastly by our thoughts. No doubt, clothes and body make an impression on others but only for a few minutes. We can make a little bit of changes only, in the body, we have received through God through ornaments, dresses, wearable accessories et cetra. But the impression we leave on others through our speech and thoughts is very long lasting. As such, for development of our personality, we need to concentrate much more on our speech and thought pattern. Our speech is nothing but outward expression of our thoughts. What is spoken depends upon our thoughts and our thoughts depend upon our knowledge. Crux of the matter is we should obtain more and more knowledge about maximum of fields. Our knowledge should not touch only the surfaces of different fields without having the in-depth knowledge of specific fields. This is true that even whole life is short for obtaining in-depth knowledge of a particular field. Then, what should be done? We should have at least in-depth elementary knowledge of different fields. Knowledge is one but there are different fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry et cetra. There are certain elements, which are common to different fields of knowledge like mathematics, physics, chemistry et cetra. We, at least, must grasp well these common elements of knowledge. These common elements of knowledge are nothing but HUMANITY.

Does our development depend upon judgment of others? Does our development not independent of others’ views? Development of our personality does not depend upon ranking given by others. This means that our personality may be developed, even if others opine otherwise and our personality may not be developed even if others rank it high. What exactly, do we want to achieve by developing our personality? Our personality should be developed in order to enjoy worldly pleasures and bliss of God. If we have good clothes, a good body, a good speech and good thoughts, we are eligible to have worldly pleasures but we may or may not be eligible to enjoy bliss of God. We must remember that good clothes and a good body cannot substitute good speech and good thoughts but good speech and good thoughts can very well substitute good clothes and a good body. We become eligible to enjoy bliss of God only if our personality is developed. Then we behave with other souls in accordance with fulfilling the purpose of creation of this universe.

The summary of this whole lecture is-if we wish for development of our personality, we must imbibe elements of humanity in our personality. In the ratio of our being successful in possessing basic elements of humanity, we develop in us a power of attraction, because of which other people get automatically attracted towards us. Without imbibing humanity, development of personality is not possible.
